Life with Ozzy and.. Tolkien
The misadventures of Ozzy and Tolkien at home

Hoomins and their bad habits can be sooo annoying at times!

Sometimes hoomins think that they are funny....seriously now it’s not funny!

Well here we are again, another week has just passed and hoomins are still here as always now permanently for which I’m very grateful these days (of course I still don’t like it when they do go out for sometime but I’m hoping that now that it is getting colder they’d be cutting down on these outings again). Long have gone those days when I wanted things to go back to what it used to be normal with the hoomins going out everyday to what they’ve used to call work place so I could have my house to meowself for a few hours....Well not anymore....I prefer it now that hoomins are permanently indoors so I can keep an eye on them and they can keep an eye on Tolkien who at times can be sooo annoying (by the way you can still read about our life at home and of course all about the good times we’ve used to have at home in the good old days before March when hoomins behaved like hoomins and they’ve used to go outside often...in the hoomins comic Life with Ozzy.. and Tolkien available on Amazon)!

But don’t worry I’m not planning today to moan about Tolkien again although I should do so really since he is such a nuisance after all most of the times, day or night having no brains for a cat and no interest in learning anything you might try to teach him. He has now grown to the size of two cats....he is really really big (even hoomins say it so) but he still acts and thinks he is a kitten....good grief! He still climbs on the top of the doors, chews cardboard boxes and paper, tries to eat plants and everything else he can find in his path, he still meows like a kitten, he doesn’t know how to cover after he has been to the litter tray and he constantly tries to convince the hoomins that he is still a kitten which of course he often succeeds to do so as hoomins are very gullible in general. Unfortunately this also means that because he still thinks he is a kitten he behaves like one so and when it comes to playing he can’t use any common cat sense and as a result he causes havoc and destruction in his path and then lets meowself to get blamed for all the mayhem he has just caused....But of course now that the hoomins are at home thankfully all the time they can keep an eye on him so when he does misbehave he also gets the blame....so finally I’m not getting blamed for everything anymore....even the hoomins know who is responsible for all the stampeding and destruction that follows....So yes it is good to have the hoomins at home all the time!

Tolkien trying to hide again....hoomins beware Tolkien is under cover again!

But unfortunately there are also some negative points as well with the hoomins being at home all the time as hoomins seem to be getting occasionally obsessed with doing things that they do not really make a lot of sense and which can cause a lot of harm to cats like meowself. For example when the hoomins decide to sit in front of the TV to watch for hours upon hours films and series non stop…doing TV marathons of watching films and series and as result forgetting that they are still cats living with them who they need frequent feeding and attention too and they don’t like watching what they are watching (unless of course they are watching documentaries about birdies or other small interesting animals)!

I mean what is that obsession all about? Even if it is the weekend they shouldn’t be spending all that time watching TV....it’s not one of their healthy habits and it is not good for them or meowself (or any other cat under the same circumstances of course…unless it’s Tolkien obviouisly). Nope I do not like it when the hoomins seem to be forgetting that I’m around and I can’t sit then in front of the TV as I normally would have done if they weren’t too busy watching and not wanting to be disturbed.

And it’s not just the TV watching obsession which is annoying when it comes to the hoomins and their peculiar habits....It is also their obsession with what they call gadgets which is the most annoying....You know I’m not an unreasonable cat meowself. I do understand that now that hoomins are at home all the time they need to spend in front of their computers a few hours on a daily basis to do what they call work.....so I’d allow them to take some time to do what they have to do. No, it’s not that hoomin habit that bothers me really but their obsession with these gadgets that they seem to constantly use to check things or to read or to play with.....all the time! It seems to be getting worse as every week passes by and they’re becoming more and more obsessed....soon they’d forget totally that meowself and Tolkien are around and they’d stop filling up our food and biscuits bowls or they even might stop cleaning our litter trays and keeping on eye on Tolkien, which of course would be a totally disaster! I can’t have that pesky ex kitten bother me all the time....little chasing and playing at night time is all that I can take on meowself without the hoomins’ help!

Yes it is good to have the hoomins at home but they need to start spending some more time again looking after meowself and not to forget to fill up my food bowls on time! This is simply unacceptable!

Anymeows better go now....it is time to entertain Tolkien and check my food bowls again!

Purrs and meows till next time!

Monday 21 September 2020

So it appears that the hoomins don’t really appreciate our efforts to entertain them….pffft!

This is how I keep my paws warm while I’m helping the hoomin with work...multitasking you see!

Here we are again and another week has just passed and things were like they were last week and the week before…you know same as it has been for some time now….Except, wait a minute…yes there have been some changes or at least they might be soon if the rumours I’ve heard are true of course. Well things don’t seem to go that well out there in the hoomin world apparently or at least this is what my hoomins are saying so there is the possibility that all hoomins and not just my hoomins might start staying indoors again as it was before so they can look after again properly their dogs and cats…

Which would be a good thing in my opinion as I don’t like it when my hoomins are going outside and spend all of their day doing other things other than staying home and looking after us (well meowself anymeows as Tolkien doesn’t really need a lot of looking after as he is a hazardous cat, a cat prone to accidents and disaster as I’ve mentioned it before many times…by the way you can still read about our life at home and of course all about the good times we’ve used to have at home in the good old days before March when hoomins behaved like hoomins and they’ve used to go outside often...in the hoomins comic Life with Ozzy.. and Tolkien available on Amazon). To be totally honest I don’t like it at all when my hoomins are going outside and spend a lot of their time doing things that they are not really important. I mean what can it be more important than looking after meowself and OK at times perhaps Tolkien too. Who wants to have their hoomins going out for hours to that place they’ve used to call work and leave you with empty food bowls for hours and then and when they do come home sometimes unacceptably late to be tired and not in the right mood to give you the attention you deserve? Nope, not meowself!

This is why meowself and Tolkien are going to all this trouble as I’ve mentioned it last week to keep the hoomins entertained and stimulated when they are at home so they don’t feel the need to go outside for long periods of time and frequently…But of course hoomins being hoomins don’t seem to be appreciating of all our efforts to keep them healthy and happy and they are always seem to be complaining when we are trying to be helpful. As apparently we are always on the way when they are doing exercising while we are only trying to help them to do those exercises the correct way or when we are trying to help them with their work…

Tolkien for once is just watching the hoomins and not causing havoc!

But and to honest I don’t always blame them especially when they do complain about Tolkien as he can be sooo clumsy and prone to accidents and whatever he tries to do always ends up in disaster...I mean that cat is so big these days that he is almost an embarrassment to the cat world...cats are not supposed to be so long and clumsy....You know how things are for example when he tries to cover after he has been in the litter tray and he manages to cover the floor outside instead of what is inside the litter tray....Then there is his well known by now dreaded stampede when he gets excited after he has been to the litter tray and then he starts running in the house and he does sound like there is a stampede of elephants in the house....so now the hoomins are calling him little catelephant...Seriously he is so loud when he runs that he does manages to wake the hoomins....and my hoomin that goes to bed really late or early in the morning is not too happy to be waken up soon after she has gone to bed....He is also so clumsy too and even when we are playing and the hoomins are around he tends to cause havoc in his path and knocks things over and hoomins are not that happy....Well he is a lot worse really than you might think and sooo loud that he cannot be compared with my apparent snoring which hoomins are saying is getting worse as it’s so loud these days that they can’t really sleep when I’m snoozing on the bed....really this is so unfair. The hoomins snore too a lot and they’re very loud and I’ve never complained  even when they do keep me awake....As I’ve said it before I do not snore I only purr gently and melodically as I also tend to occasionally meow...really quietly and very cute....like a kitten (why Tolkien is giggling now?).

But and as I’ve said it before hoomins don’t appreciate anything we do and they always find something to complain...

Oh well I guess they can’t really help themselves as they are hoomins after all...but even if they are annoying at times I still prefer it when they are at home...safer indoors than out there with all the other hoomins I say.

Well that’s all for this week.

Purrs and meows till next time then!

Monday 14 September 2020

There are so many ways that you can entertain your now always at home hoomins!

Here I’m showing hoomins some proper yoga poses....upward cat!

So here we are again and another week has just passed and hoomins as always are staying at home as per usual these strange times....although I must admit that they do seem to be going outside a bit more often then they’ve used to! Hmmm...not sure that I like it though....kinda prefer it when they are at home all the time...you know when they go outside there is always the possibility that you might need something urgently....you know like topping up your food or biscuit bowl (that Tolkien does eat a lot these days especially when it comes to biscuits....even hoomins are saying it rather frequently now by the way you can still read about our life at home and of course all about the good times we’ve used to have at home in the good old days before March when hoomins behaved like hoomins and they’ve used to go outside often...in the hoomins comic Life with Ozzy.. and Tolkien available on Amazon) or having someone around when you need a hoomin to entertain you for example as Tolkien can be rather boring at times especially during the day as he tends to sleep a lot....even for a cat talking about another cat!

So yes I don’t think that it is really good and beneficial for the hoomins to be going out regularly more than once a week for a couple of hours only....that is of course permitted by meowself! After all they do need a little bit of fresh air now and then I guess....well, maybe!

Anymeows meowself and Tolkien think that is for the good of everybody if hoomins do stay at home all the time, you know it is safer after all for the hoomins and more beneficial to us! Besides there are many things that they can do to entertain themselves and of course they can now work from home everyday....yeap better for the hoomins to be indoors especially now that the weather would be changing soon and it would get a lot colder...

So and to make the hoomins life more interesting and stimulating so they don’t get bored and feel the urge to go outside I have come up with some stimulating and entertaining activities for them to try on a daily basis (OK, Tolkien might have also given a little paw too).

Sometimes Tolkien can be rather silly...wearing feathers on the head, really!

You know you need to give them daily tasks to do such as to keep them stimulated and also entertained...such as helping them to do their daily exercising routine by adding some more extra exercises for them to do like avoiding the cat for example…But along with the physical exercises I’m also trying to provide them with some interesting and mentally stimulating games too so they don’t get bored.

One of my best ones is the poolet exercise....you know after you’ve have been to the litter box you are then leaving around in the house in different locations small poolets, little presents for the hoomins to find before someone steps on them and makes a mess in the house....or in the worst case scenario if they do not succeed themselves in finding them in time then either Tolkien or the electric vacuum would discover them instead and then the mess in the carpet would get a lot worse....you see how good my little game is? The hoomins need to use some good skills to find the little ‘presents’ such as good observation skills and memory so to figure out where those little scattered presents might be and when to expect them. As off course so to make things a lot more interesting I don’t always leave my presents around for my hoomins to find....not every time I visit one of the litter trays....no, no we don’t want to make things too easy for the hoomins of course....It is such a fun game to play and we all have so much fun especially when the hoomins don’t succeed in finding those little presents on time or when they don’t pay any attention and then they either accidentally step on them (with or without shoes) or and when they think that they are just cat biscuits they then instead use their hands to pick them up.....hoomins are so funny then! The sounds they are making.....precious! Oh those hoomins they can be so funny at times. But of course they also entertain themselves as well as this is such a fun and educational game to play!

It is also a better game of course from the just scattering of cat litter around the house game that we’ve used to play before as the hoomins now have managed to change the rules of that game by getting cat litter that it’s not so easy to scatter around the house anymore....This is why of course I had to come up with a different game instead....it is my duty after all to keep my hoomins entertained now that they are at home a lot....Although meowing at the early morning hours when they are asleep might also prove to be rather entertaining activity too especially now that my voice sounds a lot better and I can meow properly....hmmm, yes this is also something that I might need to consider as well...something new to use for the hoomins!

Anymeows time to go now as it’s getting rather late and I’m starting feeling a bit peckish too....

Purrs and meows till next time!

Monday 7 September 2020

Finally I’ve found my voice and I’m not a bully...

Here I’m sitting quietly and hoomins decided to have some fun with meowself, ha ha!

Yeap this week is proving to be a great week after all. Hoomins are still at home of course all day transforming themselves gradually but very steadily so to become soon like us, cats as they have forgotten by now how to be hoomins, well at least like hoomins used to be anymeows!

But of course this is already old news....cathoomins are now a reality as it is my new found voice. Yes finally some great news at last in these strange times....very exciting news indeed.

You probably are aware by now that I’m not a very talkative cat meowself (unlike Tolkien of course who likes hearing his own voice all the time and who he continuously likes to  meow day or night and sometimes for no apparent reason really, just to be heard....by the way you can still read about our life at home and of course all about the good times we’ve used to have at home in the good old days before March when hoomins behaved like hoomins and they’ve used to go outside often...in the hoomins comic Life with Ozzy.. and Tolkien available on Amazon ).

I have always been a rather silent cat who very rarely complains loudly or otherwise about anything as and instead I prefer to suffer in silence. You know talking has never been my style... there is no need really to use vocalisation even for the hoomins benefit as they seem to understand me quite well without the need of much ‘talking’....you know you only need to look at them and play the cute card by exposing your belly while rolling around a bit and they then know straight away what they need to do. I must admit thought that it took meowself quite a while to train them to be that responsive but in the end all my hard work and effort paid off and now they always know what I want them to do and when I need it to be done....

Of course Tolkien is a totally different cat as he tends to use a lot of different meows to get the hoomins attention which they usually work… well at least mostly as sometimes his constant meowing seems to have the opposite effect and hoomins instead tend to ignore him....I have tried to teach him the silent way but he doesn’t seem to be able to understand how to play the cute card with the hoomins and his attempts sometimes end up in disaster....oh the times he has fallen off things while he was trying to show his belly to the hoomins are far too many for meowself to even remember them.... So yes I’ve always thought that meowing wasn’t really for meowself and to be honest I had never really attempted to do any meowing at any time.

But things changed the other night when I was testing my vocal cords and then suddenly and unexpectedly I’ve heard meowself meowing....it was really magnificent....so exhilarating to hear my own voice in the quiet of the night when everybody else was sleeping. You see and to be totally honest I wasn’t sure that I could meow at least properly that is as I had never really tried or felt the need to do so. But now that I know that I can I do admit it that it feels great to be able to hear one’s cat own voice....Of course I’m not planning to start now constantly meowing like that silly Tolkien does but it is nice to be able to do so when you feel like, you know to be able to do late night singing for example for your own pleasure.

I’m  not bullying Tolkien he’s chosen to sit on the hammock, honest!

By the way this is the only thing that I do when the hoomins are asleep and I don’t chase around the house Tolkien or bully him as hoomins think that I do....so absurd! As I’ve mentioned it before we are only having a little bit of fun chasing around the house and we are most definitely not playing rough....Tolkien is a drama queen and he squeaks and meows for no really reason....it’s all an act. Also I want to explain that my hoomins haven’t caught meowself as they are saying in the act of pulling and eating Tolkien’s fur. I do not eat fur....why should I eat Tolkien’s fur? It doesn’t even taste nice....they are all rumours and lies I can tell you that!

Anymeows better go now it is getting late and I have some things to do....not to bully Tolkien or eat his fur of course!
