Life with Ozzy and.. Tolkien

Life with Ozzy and.. Tolkien
The misadventures of Ozzy and Tolkien at home

Monday 28 December 2020

Finally the end is near... and what a year it has been for the hoomins!

It is good to get some time to yourself...no hoomins or Tolkien to bother you!

So here we are and there are only a few days left before we can finally say goodbye and good riddance to this strange and perhaps a rather bad year....well mostly for the hoomins I guess as us, cats, well....we can’t really say that this year it has been really that bad...as some might even say quite the opposite. What a good year it really has been!

Well, it was at least different from all the previous years as hoomins and us cats of course had to adapt to new routines and most importantly for the hoomins to learn to spend a lot of their time indoors with us. Something which was rather sudden and unexpected and which they never thought that it would last the entire year…and beyond!

There were a lot of things that the poor hoomins had to give up this year such as not being able to go outside anymore for work or for all the other normal hoomin activities such as going to places where other hoomins usually go and meet and behave like hoomins I guess or even go on holidays…which were things that they had to totally give up and instead try to find ways to entertain themselves while they were staying at home.

But and to be clear really staying at home is not such a bad thing after all and it is something that us cats have long time ago figured out so now it was time for the hoomins to do so too. There are always things that you can still do while at home and which things hoomins would normally do at their workplace such as actually work from home without having to go through all the fuss of getting ready and traveling...something which it used to really annoy my hoomins especially what they’ve used to often call traffic and when the weather was bad. Now things are so much simpler as they only have to get up out of bed and they are ready to start working without having to waste any time on getting ready or traveling. And of course let’s not forget that they are also getting a lot of extra help from us so they can finish their work a lot quicker than they’d have normally done if they were at the office (and of course it’s not just the hoomins’ work that we also often are giving them a helping paw now that they are at home as we try to be helpful wherever we can. You are welcome hoomins).

Yeap hoomins are so much better now that they can work from home. They can now have a stress free and easy life a lot like our own…(well meowself anymeows...Tolkien not included...by the way you can still read about our life at home and of course all about the good times we’ve used to have at home in the good old days before March when hoomins behaved like hoomins and they’ve used to go outside often...in the hoomins comic Life with Ozzy.. and Tolkien available on Amazon)!

As for missing out on all the other activities that they’ve used to do outside I don’t really think that this is really the case as they are not actually missing much. Now they are doing a lot more of exercising, a lot more of cooking and even watch a lot more of entertainment at home whenever they want without again having to step outside especially now that is rather cold and miserable out there.

That Tolkien has no idea how to hide or how big he really is...

And of course and very importantly let’s not forget that now they are spending a lot more time with us and we spend a lot of our time with them so to keep them entertained.

My hoomins are a lot happier now that they don’t have to go to work anymore and they don’t seem to mind or even want to go outside as often as they’ve used to. They are quite happy staying at home and doing the things they like and which they never seem to have had the time to do before.

So yes it might have been a rather bad year for some hoomins out there as some might have suffered greatly and even got seriously ill or even worse but for those hoomins that they had to stay indoors and change their way of living I think that this year hasn’t really being that bad. I think that this year gave the opportunity to many hoomins indoors out there to think about their lives and what really matters and it is important and worth living for. Hoomins and cats should be grateful for all the good things in our lives that we are currently have and enjoy and to stop complaining about things that they don’t really matter in this life, to stop being greedy for things that they are expensive and rather unimportant and being blind to all the good things that are around us.

So hoomins be grateful for your furry companions that they are currently share your life and cats out there be grateful for your hoomins that they are looking after you and share their life with you (By the way that doesn’t apply to the squirrels outside that they keep pestering us all year around…).

Let’s all be thankful for all the good things in our lives and wish for a good and happy new year (and for that squirrel outside to stop bothering us)...to 2021!

Monday 21 December 2020

The festive season might be here but not all things are that merry for us cats!

I’d get to that stoopid Tolkien without having to have to huff and puff his house!

So Christmas is not far away now (and the end of the year finally is not too far either) and my hoomins have gone into full festive mode it seems which I’m guessing it is also for many hoomins everywhere out there now that they haven’t been left with much else to celebrate. I do feel sorry for those hoomins though that they can’t even go home now and they are stuck somewhere where they don’t want really to be this festive season. Of course and most importantly I feel especially sorry for those poor cats and dogs that they would have to celebrate these holidays without having their hoomins at home with them...

Anymeows and back to my little issues with this festive season. You see I don’t really mind those peculiar Christmas decorations that hoomins insist on putting on this time of the year around the house like for example bringing real trees indoors and then decorating them with shiny objects and lights and then they expect you not only not to assist them during this decorating process but also to just stay away from that nice looking and very interesting tree and only watch from afar without trying to get a closer look....I mean it is ridiculous and silly and they seem to be acting like they don’t know us at all. We are cats after all and it is our duty to check and investigate anything new that arrives to our home to make sure that is safe for all the residents and hoomins of course....so we simply can’t just sit and watch without doing some sort of investigation…is not in our nature you know!

But of course I’m a reasonable, intelligent and understanding cat after all and I do know that the hoomins have put a lot of effort and time to decorate that nice tree so I can always have a discreet look when they are not around without disturbing anything that they can clearly see…as they don’t even know that I’ve been close enough to have a thorough investigation because and after all I’m very good to be a cat! But naturally and because I’m not the only cat in the house I can’t really say the same about Tolkien who is still and after all an amateur who has no idea of how big and destructive can he be or who knows how to discreetly investigate and when....when the hoomins are not watching you of course stoopid Tolkien (by the way you can still read about our life at home and of course all about the good times we’ve used to have at home in the good old days before March when hoomins behaved like hoomins and they’ve used to go outside often...in the hoomins comic Life with Ozzy.. and Tolkien available on Amazon)!

Tolkien thinks that he is part of the hoomins Christmas decorations...

Anymeows enough it is been said about trees and Tolkien and these are not really my main concerns because and as I’ve said it before my issues are not with the Christmas decorations (even if the hoomins have gone a little bit too far this year....understandably of course).

My big  issue is with the hoomins’ behaviour this time of the year when and all of the sudden they’ve started behaving strangely and saying things like ‘no Ozzy you can’t eat this is not for you or it’s not good for you Ozzy....stay away from the kitchen???’

I mean what happened to my hoomins this supposedly festive season? They never say no to me, they’d even let me eat from their plate if I wish to do so help them clean the pots and plates and assist with the cooking....So how it comes and all of the sudden I’m not allowed to eat and try the things they are cooking and baking? Especially when they are doing a lot of baking and cooking and the house smells.....hmmm delicious and you can’t really escape from those smells!

They won’t even let meowself give them a paw in the kitchen while they are cooking or baking. I mean what do they actually baking or cooking that I’m not allowed to eat and they can? Especially when it smells so nice....how all those delicious things are not good enough for meowself to eat? This is sooo strange and such a mystery that it needs to be solved immediately, without any delay!

Nope I most definitely don’t like these strange hoomins during this festive season as they are not behaving like my hoomins that I know well and who’d never say no to anything that I want (well sometimes they say no to Tolkien because he is quite stoopid after all). Which it is such a pitty of course because I was really looking forward to Christmas for a little cheer and celebration after this trying and horrible year that we all had (well OK the hoomins had and ourselves with them as well as we could feel their pain at times).

But I’m not as yet panicking and I’m trying to stay positive and believe that when it comes to the actual Christmas dinner the hoomins would revert back to their old selves again and we’d then all share that lovely Christmas dinner (well at least some of that lovely roast meat that they usually have as I’m not really interested on the green stuff that they usually have as well, they can keep all the other stuff really).

So let’s all be positive and have a great (and tasty) Christmas this year!

Monday 14 December 2020

I think it’s about time for some positive thinking....for the good of the hoomins of course!

A cat needs plenty of space to relax and stretch his paws...so no hoomins on my sofa !

You know living with the hoomins at home all the time can most definitely have some negative effects on us, cats, especially when you are an intelligent cat like meowself as hoomins behaviour and general mood and thinking can rub on you and affect you in many ways. For starters hoomins can be rather miserable and full of negativity most of the time and they always seem to see the bad side of things even in the most positive situations....you know they always wait for the worse thing to happen...

On the other hand meowself is or at least used to be a rather positive and happy cat who enjoys life and all the good things that it can bring, you know like good food, good home, a rather relaxed life and good hoomin servants. But as us, cats tend to get easily attune to our hoomins emotions it is then almost impossible to avoid falling into that negative mood and way of thinking that hoomins seem to always be these days. Of course I do understand that the past year has been a rather difficult one for all hoomins as they had to spend a lot of their time indoors and not do the things they were used to do for such a long time now but you would thought that after all this time they’d have at least adapted and learned to make the most of the situation like we do instead of being continuously miserable and grumpy!

So yes I think that is about time that I’ve started meowself to see the positive side of things and to stop being as grumpy and miserable as currently are my hoomins. Of course it’s not going to be that easy considering that I do live with grumpy hoomins and a stupid Tolkien but at least I can try especially now that the year is coming to an end and the festive season is fast approaching (by the way you can still read about our life at home and of course all about the good times we’ve used to have at home in the good old days before March when hoomins behaved like hoomins and they’ve used to go outside often...in the hoomins comic Life with Ozzy.. and Tolkien available on Amazon).

You see I need to keep reminding meowself that life is good, I’m quite happy living with my hoomins and even Tolkien and I’ve got everything that a cat would have ever needed....

Tokien is long but not as long as he thinks he is...stupid cat!

Of course things are not all that purrfect as there are still areas that they could easily do with some good adjustments and improvements such as the situation with the squirrels outside which has now become dire as there are more than one squirrel fighting over the birdies food. Yes now we have two squirrels trying to get to the feeder at the same time and a lot of bird food being scattered on the ground in the process...which it is good for the birdies at least as they do get to eat some of that food instead of the squirrels having it all to themselves. So now meowself and Tolkien spend a lot of time trying to guess which of the two squirrels would win the spot on the feeder and which one will end up on the ground....At least they are afraid of the fat and brave robin who takes no prisoners it seems!

Then it’s the little issue with the hoomins and their stubbornness when it comes to our sitting and snoozing arrangements....it is quite clear to meowself (and not to hoomins it seems) that I get to sit wherever I like to sit and feel comfortable at that time and the hoomins sit in all the other available locations....sharing the sofa for example is not to my likening as neither of the two sofas is big enough for meowself to stretch my paws and for the hoomin to sit at the same time…sorry hoomins I do not make sacrifices or compromises when it comes to my comfort and snoozing needs!

Then there is also the little misunderstanding about the hoomins obligation of having to share their food with meowself when I want to....it is my cat right after all to eat from the hoomin’s plate when I feel like as well as to lick any pots and pans that are left unattended around for meowself on the kitchen counters and sink....I don’t really understand you see all that fuss that they sometime make about it....you know when I’d try to taste everything they cook and smells and looks rather tasty....they can always taste my food if they want to I don’t mind!

But of course these are little things which they shouldn’t really stop me from being positive and excited especially now that the festive season is upon us. Although my hoomins seem to be rather old fashioned and they like doing things the traditional way they say....which means that they haven’t started as yet with the Christmas decorations and preparations which is rather annoying as I’m looking forward to all the mess that this year Tolkien most definitely would make especially now that he is almost double in size from last year and as stupid as he has ever been....Oh it’s gonna be such a fun to watch him destroy everything while I’d be just watching away from that mess and trouble....Especially this year as hoomins are preparing to go a little bit over the top so to make up for a rather miserable year....So hopefully the hoomins would soon start putting up all the decorations and the fun would finally start....hee hee!

Anymeows better go as Tolkien has been very quiet for a long time so it is time to wake him up and have a little fun now that the hoomins are finally asleep.

Monday 7 December 2020

Life at home with hoomins sometimes can be really hard for us cats!

Here I am trying really hard to be cute for the hoomin...hard work!

You know I often hear how good today cats’ life is and how ungrateful sometimes we appear to be and I get really....let’s say frustrated from such inaccuracies and misconceptions when it comes to how we spend our days at home.

You see life at home for a cat who shares his home with hoomins and perhaps with another cat as well isn’t really that easy and care free as hoomins describe it to be. It can be really hard and very hectic some days as there are always a lot of things that they need our supervision and also interference so they can be done by either ourselves or even our hoomins!

Us, cats, you see we don’t really spend all our hours in a day either sleeping or sitting in front of a big or small screen looking at it and occasionally type a few words and then pretend that we are working and then that we are and as a result of all the ‘hard working’ really tired in the evening....After all spending a lot of time in front of a screen is not that tiring or can be considered as actually doing work, especially now that the hoomins are always at home and they don’t have to go outside to go to work to do work anymore....What they do is really nothing as any cat or kitten probably could do it in half the time the hoomins are taking to finish what they are supposedly doing....pfft hoomins work...kitten’s play really.

Of course it is also true that now that hoomins are at home we don’t really have to wake them up in the morning as we’ve used to do before so they weren’t late for work but even so there are still a lot of  other things that we still need to do so to keep things going on a daily basis. But I’m not going to mention today the things we normally do for the hoomins as this subject has already being mentioned a few times before with a lot of details.

No, today I’d like to mention all the other things that we often end up doing during the day and which things can be really hard work even if hoomins don’t seem to realise how hard we are really working.

You see cats like meowself are looking after not only their hoomins but also other cats at home like Tolkien for example which of course it means that I tend to spend a lot of meow time not only looking after them and caring for them but also trying to entertain (both hoomins and Tolkien of course...by the way you can still read about our life at home and of course all about the good times we’ve used to have at home in the good old days before March when hoomins behaved like hoomins and they’ve used to go outside often...in the hoomins comic Life with Ozzy.. and Tolkien available on Amazon).

Also do you know how much energy I spend every day trying to be as cute and cuddly as my hoomins want me to be and also chasing around Tolkien so he gets entertained so doesn’t bother the hoomins? Well I can tell you then....a lot.

Tolkien here trying to cope with two of the squirrel family!

Then there is the management of the wild life outside now that the number of our visitors to the bird feeder has increased and we get up to four squirrels per day visiting the bird feeder as well as of course the great number of different birds who have now started visiting as well. Actually it is quite entertaining watching that fat squirrel throwing on the ground all the bird food from the feeder and all the birdies on the ground below eating what he is throwing away....from black birds and wood pigeons to sparrows and that   scary robin who appears to be quite a bully and who he seems not to like the younger squirrel and tries really hard to chase him away. Meowself and Tolkien spent a lot of time everyday watching the show outside with the birdies and the squirrels trying to keep some harmony to all that chaos while also trying to keep an eye on the hoomins inside as well as we don’t want them to do things without meow permission. Yes it is really hard work.

Of course trying to keep the hoomins away from my favourite snoozing spots can also be sometimes hard work as they always go back and you have to then convince them that they need to move as sometimes they just seem to try to ignore you....Of course both the sofas and the chairs in the living room are my snoozing spots as well as the bed at night time....Tolkien sleeps on the scratching spot and hoomins can have the entire floor....Fair is fair you see.

And then let’s not forget the dinner times which again hoomins have to often been reminded so they can fill up the empty bowls....they always seem to be forgetting especially when it comes to the biscuit bowl which is usually empty because Tolkien always eats all the biscuits...Tolkien and not meowself of course!

As for the litter trays....well I do expect from the hoomins to keep them clean and tidy for us and not to need to be reminded....they can do something at least for themselves...

Yes life for a cat indoors can be rather hectic at times especially with the hoomins at home who constantly are needing to be reminded to do their duties and of course Tolkien too who sometimes can be worse than the hoomins.

Well I guess at least the hoomins are around to be reminded so this is something to be grateful for and which can make meow life a little better....

Now what was that the hoomins said earlier about Christmas decorations? Must investigate.
